Myofascial release is a technique that releases restrictions of the fascial or connective tissue system dwelling under our skin.
It covers the entire body from head to foot without interruption. This dynamic ‘connective’ tissue system surrounds, protects and connects every tissue, muscle, bone, ligament, organ and cell in the body. Think of the skin on a sausage when you think of the fascia. In health, the fascia is pliable and relaxed providing protection and cushioning, allowing us to move comfortably without pain or restriction.
However poor posture and physical or emotional trauma can cause the fascia to harden in order to protect us from further trauma. When that takes place it can create considerable pressure on underlying structures compressing nerves and blood vessels creating further tension at the point of restriction. This fascial restriction or ‘pull’ can then pull other structures out of alignment causing pain, dysfunction, strain and or emotional distress.
